        Class Winners:  Middle/Campbell/Moore,  Freeman/Freeman,  Bonds/PhilM     Conditions:  Dry

With little time for us to even worry about the old Concours competition, a rather promising full entry gathered at the now std O’Dowd start venue in Dawley. But the orgs duly found time & the top three shiniest all carried away a prize at the finish. Nice touch.
So, after the Summer (!) recess, crew’s, including many new faces plotted what was to be a pretty serious route but at least the atmosphere was dry, even to the extent that map’s were out on some vehicle bonnets!Stories were rife at the end with all crew’s having made daft (rusty) mistakes including the Hella Trooper crew at the now infamous Charlton Hill triangle in sq 5807 (126)
Nice opening round, well supported, well done to the o/a & class winners, in fact well done to all…

The Route:
One section, starting as soon as we touched the yellow outside of the premises. West through Little Wenlock to Uppington & my favourite, multiple map swaps abounded from then. Wroxeter triangle's helped loop the field back onto 127 via said sq 5807 & onto Rushton, Leighton with the B4380 taking us West to 126 once again. South to Cressage & a nice route up through Upper Cound with the cracking slot left over bridge which pointed us toward Berrington. CB’s arrived thick & fast with no let up before an unexpected no code board section past Atcham. Classic stuff to finish off with lay in the shape of Hunkington, The Lees, the very difficult to plot Isombridge yellow’s & Rodington. A quick blast down through Sugdon allowed us to take stock & check our ref’s before sampling the rather good food supplied by the Tayleur Arms. Nice…

       Class Winners:  Falconer/Morgan,  Freeman/Freeman,  Ellis/Jarman     Conditions:  Dry

The Highley Road roadwork’s really did not help our Round 2 Eve a great deal, but, with an additional 15 valuable minutes allowed for otl, I estimated this to be reasonable. Alas, for five crew’s it was not. But, as many reminded me post event… a Navigator has many jobs in the office, not least to keep event time & cut if absolutely necessary.

The Route:
After the first two sections plotted, and a run out to the Mose, S1 relayed crew’s down past Wooton & Kingsnordley before the tricky triangle that caught a few at Tuck Hill. Finishing  near to the Six Ashes x-roads the object was then relaxed to Bobbington & the first “timed” run (if required!) S2 looped the heaving entry through Highgate Common & onto OS139 before emerging back to 138 just North of the Million. The classic Morfe House Farm yellow pointed the entry back for the 2nd run, a hand out & plot for the remaining three sections! S3 was short one, Heathton thru the Aston lane to finish (if you did not use too much B road that is) ay Upper Aston. S4 started at Hillend with a difficult to plot c.b on the featureless yellow that adjoins the A454 followed by the sneaky loop of said A road to finish section just SW of Rudge triangle. S5 started immediately taking the sweaty crews NW past Stanlow & Badger to loop onto 127 & emerge nr Stockton. Small sting in the olde tail saw a few miss the Catstree loop of the A442 (as little A as poss!) to section finish 70m above Low Town in sq 7394.

The trip back to the finish venue did not go smoothly for some, this allied with the road closure perhaps took the edge of the event with 11 finishers, 5 otl & 1 retired with internal electrical failure.

So. Just the odd 23 years before our winning R3 Navigator was even born, this chap goes & wins the prestigious Motoring News Road Rally Championship. (Quiz clue: The Birmingham Post helped him out a touch in later years too!)
I suppose what I’m getting at here is, not only have we accumulated a whole host of talent from a whole host of decade’s past & present, NE & it’s Round three effortlessly attracted folks from a whole host of area’s (including: Birmingham, Shrewsbury, Welshpool and beyond Wolverhampton & Sedgley) to boot! How good is that? How proud I am?
.

It’s allowed
in the reg’s for the org’s to be nervous during the run up to the event start. They didn’t have to be. It was fine… & well done both. No need for me to dwell on the winning crew, great result, in fact, apart from your scribe’s mad mistake in the last few km’s, I think everyone did a good job to be honest.
.
The Route:
It started just West of Condover! After drawing the required shapes on our OS, S1 of three started on the A49 nr Hunger Hill.
Simple affair travelling West through Arscott, Shorthill & Farley to just SW of Westbury. And boy, was it ever muddy.
S2, the meat in the sandwich gave us a taste of Broomhill before just grazing the edge of Long Mountain yellow. Longest route kept us on our toes as by now every junc seemed to contain a triangle! A right demanding bit followed, forcing crew’s North (to the West of Breidden forest) and over to Crewgreen. The cracking lane down through Bulthy (and at 365m, Rodneys pillar having the best view in the house,) relayed the full entry back down to Trewerr! Staying off the A458 as much as poss, we then travelled East through Middletown, to finish S2 just S of Stanford. So, if two was the filling S3 was the sauce & one or two crew’s spilt a drop on this one! Including moi I hasten to add. Longest route once again & it really was a simple affair to pop up through Shoot Hill, longest trail back to ford Heath so as to drop onto the B4386 & South to Cruckmeole. But alas, for a few, this was the deciding section & all credit goes to Mr. & Mrs. “Georges” for a fitting end to a right demanding route. Nice.

Class Winners:  Green/Green, Freeman/Freeman, Leah/Bunch.    Conditions:  Muddy, Damp.

It’s official. This season, so far, has seen the most number of persons individually entered & the highest average on event entry since NExposure’s inception in 1994! Turning back the clock a wee bit, crew’s congregated in the salubrious surroundings that have served us well many seasons hence. St James garage in low town, Bridgnorth. Thank you Andrew!
But each one of us were soon to be a sweatin just a tad. This was not to be an easy ride, just look at the results; they give away only part of the story on an Eve which saw the 1969 Motoring News Champion & his extremely efficient navigating Son take a clean o/a victory. How cool is that! Leah/Bunch took a cracking 2nd o/a & class win with Freeman/Freeman cleaning up in the Semi class. Well done also to the intrepid Green duo… must be a Subaru thing!

The Route:  Err, well. Your scribe will have to piece the first bit together here… because only two crew’s sorted it out on the night!
We should have started at Morville Heath crossroads & driven due North, thereby taking in the first of many (   ) spot heights. South then, through Underton & Harpswood to travel due West, through Ditton Priors & skirt Earnstrey.
Miss SH 349 @ Hillside & finish the section on the one way Yellow which finishes at the B4364 in Sq 6287. S2 started nr Oldfield, we then dropped as far South as Bagginswood. The lane’s were indeed muddy, my man Pete sort of enjoying throwing the Trooper about in 2WD with gay abandon! North-ish past Chorley & down to the nasty slot left at “Georges” bridge in sq 7084 saw us finish off with Sidbury and the final fling through to Chelmarsh common. And so, after a very efficient results service, we all learned our fate. Results above!

Class Winners:  Green/Green, Smith/Taylor, Bloxham/Bloxham..    Conditions:  Rather cold, icy.

Even though those of us that competed in the Taylor’s’ event last season may have been prepared for more of the same… it still did not prepare us for the bombardment of Code Boards that we were to receive throughout the event!  25 (I think!) in all then, but once again a fair test & a fair route not helped in the least by super tricky conditions. Great result for Darkins & smiles all round with the three class winning crew’s.

The Route:
Held at the Sun Inn due to route clash the following eve that may have affected the Telford Nov, the first half prior to returning to the base started just South of Culmington. Great lane’s just N of Bromfield led us to Onibury, a sexy loop through Bach & back due West to almost Craven Arms. The Hope Dale area allowed no respite as we plunged South via the Pedlars Rest loop to finish the first section & receive a new score card for round two!Bache Mill, Burwood & Alcaston filled our CB column just a little more & then Acton Scott x-roads put us on the way to Ragdon & Chelmick.
No snow but nasty enough gave us no time prior to the tight as you like route which meandered through Soudley, Ticklerton & the inevitable Wall bank loop. Quick ish blast down the Roman bank allowed us to finish this one NW of Beambridge with just enough time to check plot the CB’s before a pint & a rattle. Phew.

Class Winners:  Beckett/Brunell,, Rousell/Rousell, Roberts/Smalley..    Conditions:  Light rain, muddy.

So with about 12 mins to go we were presented with a brand new family crew, no map, no Roamer, no pencil! Twelve mins later they had received the route, all geared up & ready to plot. Great stuff, and how many smiles per km…
Anyway, lovely event, change of format for these orgs, worked well with impressive scoring & prize giving. Loved it. So the Beckett/Brunell car drove home with an award together with a rather surprised Rousell pairing. Roberts/Smalley just missed it again but surely a win on the cards for this crew prior to season end. Amazingly, that was Anth & Ian’s first win since Round 3 last season, amazingly that was the first time I had missed a CB since the last event…!

The Route:
Start, halfway & Finish all held at Quatford which worked well. First section showed us the good old Mose road which then flowed through to Wooton, Tuckhill & Coxgreen. By now it was apparent that it was a case of “code boards a plenty” but it felt OK for Pete & I so we just paced the job & got on with it. Little did we know! Our route then looped SW as far as Upper Arley, then onto the little used Nash End yellow & section finish. A clever loop through Turley Green wound us back toward the Birdsgreen section two finish. Quick blast back to the Danery PH & a score card change, this allowed crew’s to sample a few local lane’s starting with the classic Hobbins example & the “long way” round Roughton. Wyken & Hallon pointed us toward Rindleford and the Bromley yellow. Back toward the A442 via Danesford and the finish just North of Quatford. Enjoyed it.

   Nice plottin..

*Furthest Cleanest rule applied.

Class Winners:  Poole/Ward, Rousell/Rousell, Darkin/Darkin/Darkin.    Conditions:  Clear but Filthy.

With many folk chatting away with regards the recent tragic shooting in the very near vicinity of our murky wooded car park start venue, I was more intent on shooting myself if I messed up for the third time in a row!! Karl & crew came up with the goods this year… and some. The event, complete with the decision to vote an extended finish time at half-way, was a great round. Good call on the time extension... as long as we don’t make a habit of it I feel.
Full turn out, well done all with class win’s & awards going to a delighted Poole/Ward, a habit making Rousell duo & the Darkin trio taking the E class this time. Pete was a great chap & sort of did what I asked of him, we needed that one!

The Route:
Three maps then, starting on 127 nr Giffards Cross. This route allowed us no respite, due West past Chillington Hall and on to Shackerley & the small maze just N of Albrighton. Still more, in the shape of the always confusing lanes that criss cross the A41 nr Beamish Farm. Dropping S through Boningale & then Burnill Green we changed to 138 & the familiar yellow's SE of Pattingham. The remaining few K’s just prior to ½ way & the second route hand out allowed us to sample the terribly mucky Shipley to Hillend yellow & slot left back up to the old A454 yellow loop cum laybye in the N of sq 8195.
Second section saw us travel East to Trescott ford, followed by multiple map changes to take crew’s South through Lower Penn, The Bratch & Swindon. For the third event in a row we were subjected to an unusually high rate of code boards, no pressure then. Our last map change took place heading West toward the Millions where we enjoyed the now std trek through Blundies, the surely, not as map Morfe House Farm yellow and onto Bobbington. The final part of the route pointed us toward “5 ways” where we found a board floating about in the mud. Subsequently scrapped, this must have given weary navs a small worry so close to the finish. So back to the Lion-O-Morfe then, where the craic was as healthy as ever… nice.

        Class Winners:  Green/Green, Rousell/Rousell, Bentley/Bentley.    Conditions:  Clear.

Whilst plotting, it very soon dawned on Pete & I that we better just switch into “just be a bit wary mode!” And so it proved that all was not quite what it seemed on the night, to use “longest” route for100% event, in my opinion, was just short of class! Loved the route & loved the 86 (approx!) black spots to keep you on ‘yer toes in places. So. Lovely Challenge winning victory from the Dark’s, another class, class win for the resurgent Mr. Rousell & the good Lady Wife. Mr. & Mrs. Green have all but wrapped up the class, as have the Freeman duo with a fine 5th on this one.

The Route:
As far East as poss then, looping Withington before the mandatory Wroxeter h/pins. Cleverly though, they were split in half as after the more Easterly dotted Yellow example crew’s (longest) were forced as far SE as Eaton Constantine before tackling the Eyton on Severn road to finish on the B at Atcham. S2 took us around Berrington through to Harley where we had a treat (!) in store with no less than 5 CB’s on the amazingly flat Yellow SW to Kenley Common. That was the first stretch that would probably elect the winner if anywhere on this event… we would see. Onto 138 then & section end at Presthope. A gentle run to the final short section three which started just SE of Crosshouses. And surprisingly, this was the second… it transpired at least three crews misread the black spot info (rad/dia) with the resulting incorrect route costing all three a top place…
Swan at Knowle Sands greeted us with the usual welcome where results were published in good time & even the chip’s were adorned with crushed pepper.

  Jeez... not another win!?!!?

The Final then. Thank you to all involved, (to many to mention!) so, the report at long last…

Mr Bunch’s favourite lay-bye (courtesy of the A41,) welcomed crew’s to this the 15th season’s finale. As is the norm, the wary (not as yet weary!) amongst us sort of knew that to win this one, one needed to be at the top of one’s game. No pressure on your scribe then that, having allowed my usual right hand man a holiday, I found myself alongside the one & only John Bloxham. And I tell you, that Impreza is not as std as it may seem!

So then, section one, a short affair sent even (or odd) numbered cars, I forget the routine, North on an anti clockwise route to drop South through Burlington farm, along the 1km straight to slot left toward the ford nr Lizardhill Farm (complete with photographers!) and back to the lay-bye.
Now… this is where it sort of turned complicated for a few, especially if you happened to be Subaru mounted… but more of that anon. Actually, lets not talk about that now, perhaps at the Awards Eve!

S2 or S1 (for those that had been directed North for the initial run) was actually a loop to the South, past the good olde Pub at Tong Norton, TR towards Shifnal & then the long way round junction to travel North through Tong Forge. And of course a second visit to the Ford (+ pics) which culminated in a final visit to the now rather worn out lay-bye. A touch more plotting & then S3, the meat of the event which aimed us a little further North to Orslow & South then to Ivetsey Bank, a loop around Bishops Wood which dumped us just NE of Albrighton. It was becoming clear that, with still away to go, time was pressing & in the words of the NE master, Mr. Darkin… some crew’s might just need to get “a lick on.”

Code boards thick & fast now as we joined the A41 once again with loops off to include the quaintly named Humpreston Hall & Beamish Farm. S4 and so to the Boningale loop, here then where I (and one or two others,) threw it away by picking up the blatantly situated CB instead of using the following slot which then dropped us down to Burnhill Green & OS 138.
Stanlow & Chesterton provided another pair of CB’s & it also provided me with proof that Mr. Bloxham might just be required (and I might add that this request was carried out gently,) to “use a few more revs in each gear” because time was ticking! The final section (5) warranted “shortest” route, (which suited me just fine) because my Driver was starting to get a little exited. Typical then that the last bunch of yellows were the wettest and as we travelled past Grindle, Evelith & Kemberton I remember thinking that this chap has done this sort of thing before! Anyway, back at the Finish venue, (micro light centre, SW of Shifnal!) all seemed OK.
I could only wait and a) please Lord let me not have let this new chap down and b) by a long shot the c/ship class win could just be in the bag… So, whilst we tucked into fish 'an chips all was revealed (complete with well received pics,) results of course are above & the rest as they say...

I memory serves me, the Bunch entourage have won best round for the last two seasons… the triple could just be on.

A good season, the triple class formulae seems to work well, with the ever improving Green duo finishing with a class win & of course taking the o/a Novice class to boot.  A rare outing for olde stager Pete Kirby netted a class win on the night ably assisted by Jonathan T.
Freeman duo, absent on this one did enough earlier to progress to the Expert class for the new season. And… rather unbelievably I succeeded in taking the last remaining class. Thank you for that Mr. Bloxham, the pleasure was all mine…
