Brave girl....

Great shot from our the O'Dowd chaps showing off the finished Short Quattro that has taken up a good deal of the boys time over the last year or three...

"We were placed right on the front of the stand next to Phil Short's Sport Quattro, Note the 'PS' on the number plate."

Hi Phil....... The Ferrari day was a great success, started with a drivers meeting regarding normal safety and circuit tips, the Testarossa was actually a bit of a dog so I chose the Ferrari 350 a lot newer car and a left hooker to boot. Did a few laps in an Audi A3 to start with for a little a track education then climbed aboard the Italian beast. The track was busy with other lovelies including a Lamborghini. It was an experience to remember and the instructors were pushing us to drive the car how it should be driven... fast, ( which surprised me.) After negotiating & leaving the pit lane to join flat out traffic on to a half mile straight I took the first Right hander flat in 4th which catapulted me round a Subaru and a Lotus Elise pulled back on to my racing line and stood on the brakes ready to feed in the power to take my next bend, as exiting the bend I went past a hole in the trees to my left where a Dodge Viper entered backwards last Saturday. We then came up to the S complex keeping well left of track and waiting to the last minute to lock her over to the right and feed on the power slowly trying not to loose the back end by getting too excited, I came out the other end ok and just caught the off side wheels on the dirt causing a bit of dust in my wake, powering through 3rd in to 4th I managed to claim another Lotus  before the next bend, pity it only lasted 4 laps I was just getting used to the car.  All in all it was a good session... many thanks to the donor of the prize.

ps.  Heartbeat took the photos..... Chris Green.

When we attended the Northern Exposure Annual Dinner in May, Sandra duly won one of the raffle prizes. When choosing her prize, she eschewed the 'Ferrari Driving Experience', the 'Flight In A Vintage Aircraft', and, miraculum miraculorum, the large box of Cadburys Roses. What she chose was announced as 'a gentle drive through the Shropshire lanes in the PhilM Lancia Delta followed by afternoon tea.'
Well, after waiting several weeks for suitable weather (Phil can't handle her in the wet!) the day eventually arrived.

We met up as arranged at Corfton and Karen and I waved to the intrepid pair as the Delta ambled away from the PH. We drove gently up on to the Mynd for the first of several photo shoots. The first shot saw the Monza red Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione 1, to give the beast its full name, turbo whining, 4WD scabbling on the gravel as it climbed up Asterton Bank. Sandra looked as though she had seen a mouse and an earwig at the same time (yes, it was that scary!) as Phil  managed the Supercar around the curves at the top of the hill.

A short break followed while we positioned ourselves at the Boiling Well hairpin, and soon the sound of the Integrale's 210 bhp echoed across the heather and was suddenly there screaming around the hairpin left using all the road.

The afternoon's fun and  games for the intrepid  Sandra ended on a high note with scones and tea at the Carding mill Café. Then it was my turn on the maps while Sandra drove Karen   s   l   o   w   l   y   back to Bridgnorth.

We detoured to see an unmarked fundamental OS benchmark, the way you do, before Phil decided to show me how the Delta – six times WRC Manufacturers Championship winner 1987-92 – came to be so successful a rally car. I am still shaking slightly as I type these words.
A marvellous afternoon. Many thanks to PhilM and K.

A summer piccy direct from the Algarve featuring the Bentley family....

Martin (O'Dowd) has asked me to entertain (and teach) a few over 50's Morris Minor folk with the
"Basic Roamer Road Show Live"  An email from Martin reads:

"No problem, my people are looking forward to it and boy do they need your help! On Saturday I was given some co-ordinates for a meet in West Sussex, given the Northing's first and then Westings! Closely followed by Eastings in brackets. Thank heavens for sat-nav. I heard a whisper that the "shorty" is to contest Round One, will this be the first N.E- D.N.F? Don't tell 'em I said that." Regards Martin

(We will not say a word Martin...!)

Looks like they need the tuition though....

Nice email from an old new face last week...

Hi Phil,
I entered a few NE events a couple of seasons ago (Chris Wood red 106 Rallye), I was wondering if you have any places available for the new season just starting as I know you only run 12 cars.
Kind regards,  Chris Wood.

Couple of nice piccie's from Dave Millard/Nic Nicolaou's 2003 archive...

...here we see Nick having to site himself between bends utilising a thumb. This is because Dave forgot to purchase The Basic Roamer...

...note the well positioned sticker obscuring the drivers vision during tight hairpin right slots...

Fresh from our 06/07 Round One recce...

Quite impressed with the Motor actually...
